Hello all! I wanted to share with you my most recent acquisition. This beautiful uniform belonged to a 1st Lieutenant in the 91st Infantry Division. His name is J o h n. J. Schreibeis and he was born in Wisconsin in 1920. He enlisted in Milwaukee, WI on October 9th 1942. Sometime during his career he was commissioned as an officer and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, The Presidential Unit Citation, and 3 Stars on his EAME Ribbon for the 91st's actions in the Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po-Valley Campaigns. The jacket itself is a rather hard to come by Army Regulation Officer's Ike Jacket with the Silk lining, Regulation Tag, and the QM tag also reads Officer's Field Jacket. It is a first for me as I thought it was just a normal EM's Ike when I first purchased it! The construction is much nicer comparing it to my other EM's though.
The grouping also came with Schreibeis' 91st Division unit history and a small religious felt/paper token which was found inside the jacket's inner breast pocket. It never ceases to amaze me what small treasures one can find by "Digging in the pockets"
I feel honored to own this uniform from a Division (and EAME Theater) that is rarely spoken of and forgotten.
Thank you for looking!
*If anybody has more information on Schreibeis I would love to know more about his time in service.
